Got caught.
Some usta rig front springs to drop down lower then allowed front end height after the cars started the race.
Some usta try to hide extree gas capacity; wouldn't that be important today!
Penke usta run his TransAm AM cars with only 4 lug nuts per wheel/hub.
One less lug nut to handle - less pit times.
I used to run different offset motor mounts and rear tranny mounts for SCCA tracks, depending on the exact number of left or right turns.
Every lil' bit counts!
I recall guys that ran hidden water (ballast) tanks to meet minimum weights at weigh-ins; let out the water during the race to lighten the car.
I recall a big SB Chevy modified NHRA guy in South Florida who has ONE (1) cylinder that met bore maximum diameters until he got caught.
Racers are like NASA/JPL guys; every advantage counts.
Every team has it's engine and chassis set-up secrets.
Too much top end HP = Lousy mileage; a Rousch engined lower HP set-up Ford beat the higher HP Chevys.
I am not much on all this "mileage racing BS"; computers play more part then the cars and drivers.
It's kinda like 'Affirmative Action' for NASCAR, CART, INDY, etc.
"Restricter Plate" racing is another AA weird idea.
Simply lowering (legal) the air pressure in your RR tire at the drag races will decrease the RS tire diameter slightly and also increase tire grip.
(Engine torque loads one rear tire more then the other; a small cable from LS front frame to LS front engine will reduce this under acceleration & also save your stock design engine mounts from failing.......leave it slightly loose at idle speeds to reduce vibration on the street)
Engine revs quicker, car leaps off the line.

We did almost that on Parsons factory Ford in 1956. We had a 2 gallon can up under the dash with a 1/16" line to the firewall and built 1/16" dumps over the secondaries with a neoprene tube from the firewall to the air cleaner and ran nitromeethane in the can, the difference is we didn't get caught and Parsons won the national championship.
