Chechnya is an open sore for Russia still. Maybe it has to be because they have a land connection with that country. Iraq may become an open sore for the US. But it never had to be and we can hardly claim the same national security issues that Russia can in Chechnya. Time to declare victory - call some Iraqi "president" and pull out.

We will establish airbases in Iraq, from which we can strike anything in the Middle East, and will be there for the next 30 years. This war will likely last for the next several generations.

The reason we went into Iraq was to occupy it. Period. We never gave a rat's a$$ about Saddam or his kids or his bombs or his WMDs. We needed that key piece of real estate to further our goal of yanking the funding and the friendly governments out from under the Islamists. We're not done with that yet and until we are we're staying! THEN we'll salute the new boss and go home. Not before.
