I just got the book. I had read an excerpt on the internet and decided I'd take a chance on the rest of the book. I'm just starting "Treason", so I will get to Morris' book next.
I was surprised to read that Morris was convinced x42 had no interest in terrorism - and Morris reflected his concern about the country's national security because of x42's attitude. I was kind of impressed with the excerpt - it didn't seem to be excusing x42 - nor was it pointing a direct finger toward 9/11.
I came away thinking - if x42 had paid more attention to terrorism, maybe we could have prevented 9/11; although nothing is that positive when it comes to terrorists. However, I am convinced x42's lack of concern did allow the terrorists to get larger and better funded, which certainly did not help.
The overall sense I got from Morris' book was that x42 was a complete DUFUS. He was only there as a figurehead - he didn't set the agenda; he didn't make the rules; he didn't pay attention to any details; all he did was play with the girls. x42 was certainly a poor excuse for a "leader". The total chaos which reigned is 180 degrees from the admin we have today (Dereliction of Duty confirms this).

Clinton only had two cabinet meetings for a whole year--the first to say that he didn't have an affair with that woman, and the second to apologize for lying to them.
During his term in office, clinton spent almost all his time playing gold, womanizing, going on world tours, and fundraising. I would estimate that he probably spent about 20 minutes a day on the people's business. Given his character, it's probably better that he didn't spend any longer. If he had spent more time on foreign policy, he probably would have used up the country's supply of cruise missiles even faster, bombing mud huts and aspirin factories.
