He doesn't mention either that McCarthy investigated the VOA becasue there was a revolt going on in the agency. Anticommunist actually formed a group to fight what they saw as a pro-Soviet slant by higher ups. Wire service copy (which always ran clean) going to Central America was being changed by editors. In one case, a local anticommunist rally in support of Eisenhower was referred to as a "pro-democracy" rally. "Democracy" and related words had been totally co-opted by communists south of our border. Anyone reading it would assume communists, or those on the far left, were at the rally.

Ann has hit on a timely subject. McCarthy's name has become a part of our language, and with the war, a part of current events. Isn't it worth re-examining the man who's name liberals use to draw sympathy to themselves? Appartently Conasan doesn't think so. We should look at McCarthy as pure evil and leave it at that. Like Coulter herself McCarthy was wrong, and liberals are right, despite what history says.
