The Tamil people are mostly Hindu though, and they're fighting against the Buddhist Sinhales majority. Islam doesn't really play a major part here.

A swing and a miss! The Tamils are multi-religious, including Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, and Muslims. The Muslim Tamils consider themselves a separate ethnicity entirely (though they are ethnically Tamil) and are often in opposition to the LTTE.
