The more tolerant society is of homosexuality, the more out in the open homosexuals are. This includes the establishment of places such as bathhouses where they engage in wild promiscuity. This, in turn, spreads disease which the taxpayers are called upon to subsidize.
Uncloseted homosexuals also demand, and eventually get, restrictions on the liberties of the general public. Those restrictions require police power to enforce. These include speech codes, anti-discrimination laws (California is now considering a bill to make it a crime to refuse to hire men who wear dresses), diversity committees, special pro-homosexual curricula for the public schools, and more.
On a broader note, the more sexually libertine a society becomes, the more willing the people are to turn other aspects of their life over to government, with a resulting loss of freedom and increase in taxes & government expenditures. This is something Euro-Socialists have known for decades, and which American socialists have picked up on.
Now that gay marriage has come to Canada, do you expect it to have no effect on the size of government there? There will more bureaucrats needed to enforce "diversity", special textbook committees to ensure representation of gay couples in the schoolbooks, CBC monitors to require gay representation in the media, more government lawyers needed to weed out popular resistance, more social security type payments to "spouses" of deceased homosexuals, more "educrats" to teach the kiddies the glories of sodomy, more hate crime units to determine if an anti-gay letter to the editor is a punishable offense, etc., etc, ad nauseum.

I am just as opposed to infringement on the First Amendment rights of Christians and homophobes as I am opposed to infringements on the privacy rights of gays and lesbians. There is, indeed, a correlation between homosexuals and the left, but that is largely a consequence of the unhinged and occasionally psychopathic views expressed by certain "conservatives."
The fact remains that even if 100% of gays were leftist, the vast majority of people are not gay, and they will not become supporters of government spending simply by supporting gays' privacy rights.
