COMPARE NATIONAL ANTHEMS Israel: "To be a free people in our land ..." Palestinian Authority: "Palestine is my fire, Palestine is my revenge ... With the resolve of the winds and the fire of the guns ... I will live as a guerrilla, I will go on as guerrilla, I will expire as guerrilla" National Anthem of Israel: While yet within the heart - inwardly The soul of the Jew yearns, And towards the vistas of the East-eastwards An eye to Zion looks. It is not yet lost, our hope, The hope of two thousand years, To be a free people in our land In the land of Zion and Jerusalem, To be a free people in our land In the land of Zion and Jerusalem. National Anthem of Palestinian Authority: My country, my country My country, the land of my grand fathers My country, my country My country, my nation, the nation of eternity With my determination, my fire and the volcano of my revenge The longing of my blood to my land and home I have climbed the mountains and fought the wars I have conquered the impossible, and crossed the frontiers My country, my country, the nation of eternity With the resolve of the winds and the fire of the guns And the determination of my nation in the land of struggle Palestine is my home, Palestine is my fire, Palestine is my revenge and the land of eternal My country, my country, the nation of eternity I swear under the shade of the flag To my land and nation, and the fire of pain I will live as a guerrilla, I will go on as guerrilla, I will expire as guerrilla until I will be back My country, my country, the nation of eternity |

The Roadmap gives the terrorist Palestinian Authority a state by 2005. The writing is on the wall! But no one seems to be looking.

I really don't see what is so objectionable about the Palestinian national anthem. After all, not once in it do they use that glorious phrase, "KILL THE JEWS!"
Admirable restraint.

Well, OK, just to be fair, let's compare the U.S. and the French National anthems.
NATIONAL ANTHEM OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming.
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched was so valiantlyly streaming.
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there!
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave
NATIONAL ANTHEM OF FRANCE
Ye sons of France, awake to glory!
Hark! Hark! the people bid you rise!
Your children, wives, and grandsires hoary
Behold their tears and hear their cries!
(repeat)
Shall hateful tyrants, mischief breeding,
With hireling hosts a ruffian band
Affright and desolate the land
While peace and liberty lie bleeding?
CHORUS
To arms, to arms, ye brave!
Th'avenging sword unsheathe!
March on, march on, all hearts resolved
On liberty or death.
Oh liberty can man resign thee,
Once having felt thy gen'rous flame?
Can dungeons, bolts, and bar confine thee?
Or whips thy noble spirit tame?
(repeat)
Too long the world has wept bewailing
That falsehood's dagger tyrants wield;
But freedom is our sword and shield
And all their arts are unavailing.
(The Canadian Anthem is too dorky to repeat, and the new Russian Anthem has no lyrics, since they haven't yet got around to composing a replacement for the Soviet anthem.)

They really deserve a state. They can have France!
France deserves them.

Ehhh, that is the old French national anthem. The new one goes:
Shall hateful tyrants, mischief breeding,
With hireling hosts a ruffian band
Affright and desolate the land
While peace and liberty lie bleeding?
No, because we like Saddam Hussein and Yasser Arafat.
Or any African tyrant we support.
And remeber our Vichy days?
They are coming back soon.
Throw down our arms, throw down your arms, ye French!
Th'cowering weasel unsheathe!
Run away, run away, all hearts afraid
On to opposing the US.
Oh liberty can French become thee,
No, because we like to support people like Saddam.
Can pastrychefs, chickens, and paper cages confine thee?
Or whips thy weaseling spirit lame?
Too long the world has wept bewailing
That falsehood's dagger tyrants wield;
But the French will always protect them
And our weaseling is for all to see.

Good job, knighthawk, this pretty well sums up the way a lot of us feel about the French.
