CA: Assembly committee backs bill pushed by major campaign donor

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Auto insurance rate legislation pushed by a major campaign contributor was approved Wednesday by an Assembly committee - despite arguments that it would violate voter-approved Proposition 103 and hurt many low-income drivers.

The bill, by Sen. Don Perata, D-Oakland, would allow auto insurers to offer "persistency discounts" to try to lure longtime customers away from their competitors.

it would violate voter-approved Proposition 103

I am really getting sick and tired of state legislators overturning propositions approved by the people. I think there should be an amendment to the state constitution that the only way to overturn a proposition is by another proposition. These people have absolutely no respect for the will of the voters. It is disgusting.

There is something seriously wrong, when a private company cannot give discounts for any reason they see fit. Or on the other hand, with the exception of kibitizing or collusion... Charge what ever fees they want. Provided the customers are allowed to vote with their feet.
