I believe we should can the shuttle! And use only un-manned ships. They will have no loss of life, if any problems occur. Use robots instead. And the vehicles can go much farther into space, than a manned ship. Plus it is much cheaper to fly un-manned ships. Less weight, less energy to explore. More efficient and safe to explore farther into space!

Kind of like building robots for human procreation so we won't be bothered with all the problems associated with sex.

The only problem with exclusive robotic exploration of the cosmos is, well,
PEOPLE WANT TO GO TO MARS, THE MOON, THE SPACE STATION, SUBORBITAL FLIGHTS, THE ASTEROIDS, AND THE STARS!!!
Somtimes, the obvious solution stares you in the face. If we want to send people to Mars, then SEND PEOPLE TO MARS. There are many, any people who would volunteer. Make the government burden as small as possible, by making the venture pay. There are ways.
