Even the recent AA winner, The Pianist, neglects to inform the audience of the Soviet's actions wrt to the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The Jews held off the Nazis for weeks with a few guns and little else. While the Red Army stood by idlely, the Nazis finally slaughtered the Jews.

Had the Red Army wished it could have put a stop to the slaughter by attacks at almost any time. It did nothing.

I read an article possibly ten years ago by a 40s-50's movie star, Robert Taylor, who said that while in the service he was ORDERED to make a movie that promoted communism. He also said Hollywood was full of communists.

You are confusing the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 with the Warsaw uprising of 1944.

IIRC (from a book I read about 15 years ago), the leadership of the Uprising managed to communicate with the Soviets asking them to bomb the ghetto.

That was the anti-Nazi, anti-Soviet Polish Home Army which was chewed-up in 1944 while the Red Army watched. It didn't stop then either. Over 30,000 more were murdered after the war including General Emil Fieldorf who planned the assassination of the Nazi chief of police in Warsaw.

I didn't see a movie listed by the name of "Topaz". It was the story of the Cuban missle crisis - and the intelligence gathering in Cuba. The book was much better, but the movie gave a good picture of Cuba under Castro.

I find it disturbing that if you watch something like the History Channel, (which I often do) you will see lots of documentaries of the evils of Hitler`s Germany but practically nothing at all on the evils of the Soviet Union or any of the other communist "utopias".

It turns out there is a movie by that name but, unless you're up for what sounds to be a rather effete (and French, if you'll pardon the redundancy) Leonardo DiCaprio pic (again, pardon redundancy), you'll probably wanna make another selection this Friday.
