PHOENIX -- Former Arizona Cardinal Pat Tillman and his brother were selected to receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards ceremony this year.
Pat and Kevin Tillman both enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with elite rangers in Iraq.
Their father, Richard Tillman, was expected to accept the award on their behalf at the ESPY ceremony in Los Angeles on July 16.
Pat Tillman played four seasons with the Cardinals as a safety before turning down a $3.6 million contract to join the Army in May 2002.
He and Kevin, a former minor league baseball prospect in the Cleveland Indians organization, committed to three-year stints in the Army.
Previous winners of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award include four passengers who died on Flight 93 during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Jim Valvano, Howard Cosell and Muhammad Ali.

Agreed

You know, the media has largely ignored Tillman and his choice to serve.
I'm glad he is getting some recognition for his service.

Hi ya, DUmmie. How's tricks? Love yer FReeper page--NOT. I guess even moronic lefties make a feeble attempt at humor now and then.
As for me, I am so glad that I left the Left behind. I'll bet that you get your kicks sexually harassing chicks, huh? That's about par for the course when it came to liberal guys. At least the straight ones. (Yeah, I remember it well.)
What I really remember was that the vast majority of Lib guys were a bunch of hypocritical, whining weenie boys who hated guys like Tillman...or guys like my husband (a decent, hard-working father and husband) who served in the military to defend freedoms that you and your kind would gladly take away in the name of socialist progress. (Let's see socialist progress=Hitler, a National Socialist, Stalin, Castro, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein--all socialists, etc...)
Hey, I still volunteer at a local rape crisis center and women's shelter. Like Tillman, I gave up a high-paying job to spend more time with my family and fellow volunteers. I actually try to do something about some of the world's problems...How about you?

The ESPY awards are presented by ESPN, which is a cable sports network. On ESPN, there is a personality named Stuart Scott, who has many bad taglines such as "Boo-yah". Next time, in light of your hyper-sensitive personality, I will try to not make any jokes at the expense of ESPN or any of its employees, though I reserve the right to continue mocking Bill Walton.

Hyper-sensitivity combined with mean spirited commentary is fast becoming a hallmark of FR. Try not to let it stop you.

Agreed. I've been around long enough, under different handles, to notice exactly what you're talking about.

OK, I'll not hold it against you regarding Walton, that's fer dang sure. However, I'm not familiar with the "Boo-yah" tag used on ESPN and thought it was a mock on the well known Army exclamation of "Hooh-Yah!" or "Hooah!" depending on how one spells it.
Hey, your page says that your favorite color is red and Free Republic has been periodically infiltrated by the "No War in Iraq" crowd since late April, so I figured wrong. I'll still keep an eye out for you. ;)

Looks familiar. I hardly ever watch or listen to ESPN unless there is a hockey game on.
What is "Boo-yah" anyways? A cutesy form of "Boula, boula?"
Well, you learn something everyday. (And make a fool of yourself once and awhile in the process, too! :)

I hadn't even considered the similarity to the chant you mentioned. No harm, no foul.
