I offered this to UPI -- no answer. Published it anyway.

You can see by Wednesday of next week if this is shaping up the way I predict.

You've stated the whole issue right on the mark! It will be Governor Schwartzenager by Christmas!

I agree, CB. I think that there's just going to be too many in the pack for anyone but Schwartzenegger to get the plurality. Feinstein might, though, if she jumped in.

This is pretty much how I see things.

For worst-case analysis, assume that the strongest candidate the Democrats can offer, Senator Diane Feinstein, joins the contest. (She will probably stay out of it, not out of loyalty to Davis but because having a union-supported Democrat replace Davis now will be like rowing to the mid-Atlantic to replace the Captain of the Titanic.)

And this is why the Republicans should not try to win the Governorship. Let all the blame for California's collapse fall unambiguously where it belongs: on the Democrats.

Esteemed Congressman,

Is this piece posted on your web site yet. I couldn't find the link and would like to post it on my site.

As much as I want to believe you, I think this is far fetch. Why, because that WHOLE state is run by RATS just like my city is and will stop this so call recall! A year ago the same thing happened here in my RAT town. A district rep was being recalled and enough signatures were raised, only to have a RAT judge and the mayor throw out the recall petition! It was such a mess, the RATS were crying foul and accusing the other side of forging signatures and you know the rest of the story. THE RAT WON and kept his place until the elections in May which the people VOTED him OUT! I think Davis will NOT step down or the recall will happen, instead the people of CA will vote him out next time...:( It's going to be a bumpy ride cowboy!

How drunk, stupid and just plain lame-brained were the idiots who set up this ridiculous system to both recall a governor and select a replacement in the same ballot.

I hope you are right, Congressman. I am afraid that with such a low percentage threshold required to win (what with 40-some candidates possible), some A-1 nutcase could squeeze through.

The other fear would be that as soon as Ah-nold or anyone else was elected Governor, their would be another recall effort. Kalifornia would then resemble the Roman Empire during the age of the Thirty Tyrants in the Third Century.

I realize Kalifornia has become a national joke, and that TV runs the entire state, but do we really need to have the largest state in the union select their Governor via the Gong Show?

Maybe all of this nonsense in Kalifornia and the ridiculous election of that carbetbagger, Shrillary, will make it obvious even to the elitists on both coasts that the real idiots aren't in the heartland, the Midwest, the South, or elsewhere in "Flyover Country" - they're in the land of the so-called beautiful people. No self-respecting Southern State, for example, would ever elect a carbetbagger Senator; no self-respecting Midwest State would ever select a Governor via The Gong Show. And yet the elitist culture, beginning with the media, wonders why they are losing ground with most of the people in the country. It's because nobody takes them seriesly anymore!!

Nailed it, including the correct legal point about state law regarding a post-recall-filing resignation by Davis.

Which will allow him to run for the Senate soon thereafter, right? Or are foreign-born prohibited from the Senate, too?

Most interesting and insightful (as usual). My question: How conservative is Ah-nold?

I think Arnold will run (if he's sure he can squash the bimbo and call-girl eruptions) but I won't be voting for him. He a big government kinda guy, and I frankly I don't want a West Coast GOP beachhead for the Kennedy Clan.

He's on good terms with the Club for Growth, albeit he is a little to the left on some social issues.

Given the crisis California is in, the Club for Growth angle probably is the more impotant aspect.

Yeah, this recall business, especially if it is intended to replace Davis, is unutterably stupid. The "Stupid Party" indeed. Those opposed to the Left are going to have to grow up very soon or be destroyed. The Left is very serious and formidable. "Conservatives" are a childish lot, sentimentally Whiggish.

I won't be surprised if Ah-nold wins, but I won't be voting for him. Anyone will be better than Davis. However, here is another reason he has a head start on the field:

A whole summer of free publicity.

He'll be promoting the movie & his candidacy.

The California Code provides that if the target of a recall "resigns after a recall has been filed," the appropriate official takes over "until the election is held."

Of course little things like the election law didn't stop them in NJ when Torch stepped down. They just found judges who ignored the law. I don't really think the CA Supreme Court would pull that but you never know.

Representative Dan Issa,

That's Representative Darryl Issa.

I agree though, the job is Ahnold's for the taking.

Dan Issa

Darrell.

I agree, Arnold will be the next governor, although there is a chance that if Shelley can put off the vote until March Davis can survive the vote, as long as they pass a budget and stuff.

What is Arnold's position on illegal immigration and Prop 187? As a legal immigrant, who succeeded in America, he could (in the same manner as Michelle Malkin) be a strong advocate for immigrating to America in the proper, legal way.

Arnold is too much of a social liberal for me to get too excited about this.
