WASHINGTON - With California ranking among the less-polluted states, industries across the nation reduced the release of toxic chemicals by more than 1 billion pounds in 2001 for the largest decrease in nearly 15 years, according to Environmental Protection Agency figures released Monday.

How could this happen under the evil anti-environment Bush administration?! It'll be interesting to see how the enviro-wackos spin this one.

"It'll be interesting to see how the enviro-wackos spin this one. "

It'a Bill Clinton's legacy, Bush had nothing to do with it.
Just as the winning US troops are Clinton's legacy, but the hamstrung FBI & CIA weren't, the good economy is Clinton's legacy, but the recession, even though it started in March 2000 isn't.

Do you remember when the Democrats had these ads that the Republicans want to give arsenic to "the children"?

``I don't know all the reasons that releases have decreased from 2000 to 2001; I think it's great (Uhh I mean) but we will find something to lame on Bush,'' said Tom Natan, research director for the National Environmental Trust, in Washington, D.C.

Look at the stock market chart. March 2000 was the peak, other economic indicators started to slide about 6 months prior.

In all fairness to everyone, it was caused by neither Clinton, nor Bush, but the most powerful man in the world: Alan Greenspan, raising interest rates 2 full %points in 14 months fighting nonexistent inflation.

(And of course Clinton had nothing to do with the previous good economy, which was turning around in the last year of Bush I's presidency, and he said it, but nobody believed him).

sarcasm>

How can this be???

Ted, Nancy, Al, Joe, Charlie, Howard, and more all tell me that GW is polluting America's air, soil and water. He's poisoning our children by letting them eat at McDonalds, Wendy's, and KFC. He's killing off the children's parents by letting them smoke, have guns, drive pollution generating gas guzzling cars.

How can this be????

You beat me to it! I wonder how much of the decrease can be attributed to the manufacturing being done overseas instead of in the US? Next big headlines: Airport, Traffic Noise Reduced BY 70%

"Industrial base" is becoming to Buchanites what "sustainability" and "mother earth" are to Greenies, buzzwords.

I ain't no Buchananite but I can prove that there are fewer industrial jobs at River Rouge, Gary, Fontana, Akron, Pittsburgh & c than there were 30 years ago. I know that our industrial base saved the free world's bacon on several occasions. The USA is in danger of becoming a nation of shopkeepers, fry cooks and video game developers.

As to the greenie terms they are only constructs.
