BRUSSELS, Belgium - Changes to Belgium's war crime laws to prevent complaints against President Bush and other U.S. officials shouldn't derail a case against Fidel Castro, an American group that filed charges against the Cuban leader said Tuesday.
Under pressure from the United States, the Belgian government has proposed altering the law that allows its courts to try crimes against humanity anywhere in the world.

Because some of the plaintiffs live in Belgium, or have Belgian citizenship, the complaint can proceedIn other words, now the Belgians only need to find a local nutcase to reinstate the cases against Bush, Sharon, etc. Any bets how long this would take?

That occurred to me earlier. There should be no compromise on putting a quick end to Belgium's arrogant belief that it can try people outside its proper jurisdiction.

He seems pretty unbiased about going after whichever party is in power. I don't necessarily see a problem with this. No politician is a Saint (not even W and team), and being a politician is regarded somewhere at the level of used car salesman or phone-book-cover-ad-lawyer with good reason. I don't doubt that, as there are honest used-car salesmen, there are certainly some honest politicians, but that is no basis for judging the leech-class as a whole.
