Principled Conservatives, Not Clever Strategery

by Rush Limbaugh

One of the conspiracy theories evolving out there has George W. Bush and Tom DeLay working together, while appearing to be at odds, to kill certain legislation conservatives don't like. The prescription drug bill would be a prime example.

Bush gets the opportunity to say publicly that he's for it, and gets the credit from Democrats for trying, but ultimately it doesn't happen. The close vote in the House of Representatives on their version of the prescription drug bill had no wiggle room in there, but there's all kinds of wiggle room in the Senate. So whatever the conference committee between the House and Senate produces, if it's not almost exactly what the House came up with in the first place, the House could vote it down, meaning there would be no prescription drug benefit added to Medicare at all.

Conservatives win when the votes are counted on the legislation, and Bush wins too, because he's been all over the map demanding it. There's not a person in this country who does not know that George W. Bush wants this prescription drug benefit on his desk now and wants to sign it. This is by no means, a slam-dunk, but it's a theory that more and more people are glomming onto. This is either a very fortunate accident or it's one of the most clever bits of maneuvering and strategery that we have seen yet.

I discuss the ins and outs of this in a little further detail in the audio link below, but I do issue this warning.

Some of you out there may be assigning mythic proportions to this man, George W. Bush, much like the liberals did with Bill Clinton, assuming he's doing everything for a reason, and that in the end, he's always going to snooker the other side.

I'd be a little careful about that, folks. I don't necessarily believe that there is any strategery going on here. If this bill dies, it won't be because of a secret plan.

It will be because of principled conservatives in the House of Representatives, conservatives like Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, who went to the White House and told the president in person that he could not and would not support this bill.

Conservatives have no, realistically, practical conservative leaders to look up to....sad.

Less Illegals when President Bush leaves than when he started?

OK, I'm curious... do you believe that there are less Illegals today than when Bush started?

You got balls throwing truth out there in an all spin zone.

Simmer down, there.

He rendered an opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

heheh

Don't get out much, do ya. You call correcting your statement that something was "truth" when it was mere opinion "a rise"?

Such excitement!

My observation in the crackdown on illegals.

My observation is that the crackdown is mostly WOT related, and that affects only a small fraction of Illegals. There doesn't seem to be any indication that there are less Illegals where I am, nor am I aware that there are less anywhere else.

Have you seen any info on this?

"I know there are a number of FR posters who want Bush out in '04, but I'd be very interested in knowing who they intend to replace him with....

Tom Tancredo, thankfully the Republican Party, unlike the Democrats, can draw from a pool of talent and dedication to conservative principles. Tancredo can handle the war on terror with one eye closed, and do something sane about our borders and Free Trade insanity.

I'll write him in, I don't expect him to succeed on all points if he becomes the first write in President in history, I do know one thing, he will earnestly try. I'm talking him up to everyone I know, today my boss was asking me alot of questions, and said she and her family feel we are at a cross roads and are registering to vote and that they will write in Tancredo, as I will do, in protest of what's going on in our nation's capitol.

Yes, I live in Tucson and know people that work at the border crossing, and also hear local news of Mexican illegals being apprehended. There has been a crackdown from what I am seeing. Tracking rings recruiting illegals, in addition to the illegals themselves.

I've never clicked your name so don't know where you are (if you're flying your flag, that is, so I'd be able to tell), but I'm signing off, so won't be clicking it tonight to find out! (Maybe tomorrow)

Good night.

Tucson is a beautiful city and frankly one of my favorite American spots to restore myself in.

Hope that doesn't ruin your day...

I am so glad I refreshed one more time before turning off the computer. I agree, I love it here. You've seen the news about Mt. Lemmon, I'm sure. You would not believe it if you were here and saw the whole mountain swathed in smoke. Saturday night after dinner we drove a little and just pulled over to watch the line of flames tracing all over the backside. But all will be well. Rain is on the way next week they say.

No, it didn't ruin my day----it made it!
