I think Rachel Weitz is getting better, she was acutally quite good in a recent crime flick called 'Confidence' with Dustin Hoffman but I agree that she wasnt doing much for anyone in the Mummy series.

She's actually a pretty good serious actress.

Seriously, my impression is that she's meant to be some kind of beauty or sex symbol. And I just don't see it.
