Kids can't be sheltered *that* much at that age -- they have to be making the right choices on their own very soon.

I think you are probably right, and I never said she SHOULD be sheltered, or prevented from making her own decisions at her age. She might even be living at home, for all I know.

I'm just concerned about the future for my children, and projecting useless anxiety onto this young lady's situation. Thanks for being civil!

OK. I understand. I disagree. I guess I should add that the fact that I live in DC and know many people who do so and whom I think you'd find quite nice and safe. It's all a question of the neigborhood. There are some good places in Virginia to commute to DC from, also.
