I think it's probably that his listenership is dropping, and he's trying to be controversial so that someone will wonder what he's saying.

And why is his listenership dropping? Negative, whiny, Bush-bashing programs! I can name at least 10 former listeners on FR that absolutely won't listen any more.

If he wants his audience back, he needs to get a more positive attitude, and quit getting ideas from the fringe element.
