This info leads one to speculate that drugs or bizarre violent behaviour might have had something to do with the plane crashing. If this is accurate about JFK jr's marriage he was clearly unhappy. I feel sorry for him. Of all the Kennedy's he seemed to be the most decent.

If he knew of her coke habit and married her anyway, then he was as dumb as a box of rocks. If he didn't know, then he wasn't on the ball.

I heard a pilot whose plane was 2 planes away from John Jr.'s report the following - that John Jr., when his wife finally showed up, told her that he wasn't flying, that it had gotten too late. Carolyn threw a hissy fit - the guy said that it was embarrassing to hear her screaming at him, stamping her feet, and announcing that she had "fixed her sister up" with a date where they were dropping her off, and they were going to the wedding (where John and Carolyn were heading) and THAT was that. There was more dialogue but eventually John, under great protestations, finally gave up and told them both to get in the plane.
We all know that the humidity that socked in the coastline, which is where John would be flying since he hadn't yet qualified for his IFR (instrument rating) was as thick as pea soup, he became disoriented, and since he hadn't had enough instrument rating flying time to believe his instruments and not what his head was saying, he crashed. It is the typical pilot-error - not believing the instruments when your body seems to be saying something else. In IFR training, you learn to pay attention ONLY to the instruments, or you wind up boring in. End of story.
It interested me that this guy came forth - I heard him once on MSNBC, early in the day following the crash, and somehow we never heard from him again. I've always wondered if he was discredited or what happened, as he seemed to be genuine, and had the pilot's license and the berthing records to prove that his plane was very close to where JFK Jr.'s was parked.
And for those who don't think she was capable of ruining a VCR by jumping up and down - am I the only one who remembers the famous Central Park fight - where she is seen YELLING and SCREAMING, and gesturing at John? It was an absolutely atrocious fight, and even if you never heard the sound, you would get the idea that this woman, Carolyn, was a class "A" b!tch.
While I'm not on the side of creating a "Kennedy dynasty", I do think that this guy picked wrongly, after Mommy nixed his movie-star girlfriend. On the rebound, he wound up with someone with the same name as his dear sister. Tragic transference, if you ask me.
John Jr. had charisma, and definitely had a future in politics. Whether that would have taken him to the White House, well, we'll never know, will we?
To answer another poster - her sister was very wealthy, having made her mark in investment banking. But frankly, the family had money as well. I thought it ridiculous that they would sue for millions in a wrongful death suit. And if Carolyn *made* John fly, who's fault was that?
