There are many reasons to leave Germany. Here's one you won't hear often. Germany needs to grow up. US troops being here allows Germans to believe defense is a non-issue. They don't have any sympathy generally [not all but most of them] with our goals and objectives for world security and the peace that comes from security. They live in a dream world and their economy benefits from us being here. They align with the anti-American French and see nothing wrong with it! Time to go. Hit the road. Adios, fare thee well, Tschuss.
El Hombre makes a good point. Germany has become a very pacifist country (akin to Sweden and Switzerland), comfortable with being under U.S. strategic protection, and eager to make its voice heard without contributing very much. It is indeed time for Germany to grow up or shut up. We probably should have gotten out of there a long time ago.
The irony is that the two German Laender (states) that will be most adversely affected, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria, are both conservative and anti-Schroeder.
