Mr. Singer, the U.S. no more controls Israel than Israel controls the U.S.
Israel, and Israel alone is responsible for its decisions.
As difficult as it may be to accept, the children of Israel are not "entitled" to "their" land any more than the Palestinians are entitled to "theirs". They both are claiming the same land, and whatever the merits of the claims, the settlements being torn down were not supposed to be there in the first place. As admirable as this little girl is, Israel shouldn't be "driving the Palestinians into the desert" any more than the Palestinians should be "driving the Israelis into the sea."
Just my two cents worth from fly-over country, and I'm no Mid-East scholar!
Not when they are being blackmailed by the big, bad wolf in the White House. It is Bush who made an issue of his faith, now let him live by it.
Can you please provide a historical overview of the people you call "Palestinians"?
Be sure to note their language, cultural aspects, religion, leaders, etc. (things that defined a group of people as a "nation")
Funny you should mention that...I just came across this thread which hopefully I "pasted" successfully:

I'm in complete agreement with much of this article, and that's why it's such a dilemma; I don't quite see how the entire "Palestinian culture" can be changed, but I think every possible effort must be made. My own opinion actually is that this "road map" idea is not going to be good for the Palestinians, and not just because the state of Israel won't be eradicated...
THAT'S a given.
By your logic nobody should be there.
What a maroon.
The last time I checked, Mr. Sharon and his government were elected by Israelis, and not the Bush Administration, not Christians, not U.S. citizens. Israel is reponsible for its decisions. Blaming the U.S., or Christians, or George Bush is simply nonsense.
I don't understand your point; there's a "territory" that two peoples "claim" as their "homeland", which I said should be divided (in the best tradition of Solomon) between the two, rather than either one driving the other off in either direction. DUH! Then we'll have to see what happens next...but I never said no one should live there!
Seems logical to me, and everyone knows a "maroon" is what my red-headed terrier mix is, LOL! She's a lot smarter than some people I know, present company excluded of course! ;)
Only because it's an untenable situation for them. So is the terrorism inflicted on Israel by Hamas and the like. I actually think this "two-state solution" will end up to be an "ultimatum" along the lines of "stop killing us, or we will kill you, with the full support and backing of the U.N."...
You're right that there are areas where Arabs and Israelis live together in reasonable harmony, so there's hope for civilized people on both sides...but it's past time to deal with the uncivilized ones, even if it's done "diplomatically"...
(can't resist this: the question for Hamas, et.al. today is, "do you feel lucky?" LOL!)
Nice, I hope this ain't the attitude Israelis who hold power because if it is The US would be well advised to re-examine it's relationship to Israel.
Oh, please. Sharon doesn't have to answer to Bush.
Personally, I doubt the sanity of anyone who lives over there, and I doubt the morality of anyone who tries to raise children there. This little girl's parents should be asked why they put her in that situation.
