Senator Hillary Clinton is smiling – thanks to Republicans. The Republican-led Congress did to America what Hillary Clinton tried to do to us ten years ago…and Hillary couldn’t be happier. Welcome to Hillary Care!
The House and Senate each recently passed their own version of a Medicare prescription drug bill and will soon vote on a final version which then will be sent to President Bush to sign. When President Bush signs the bill, the Republicans will have successfully forced upon us a straight-jacket of socialized medicine that even Harry Houdini could not escape.
The House passed its version by only one vote (216 to 215) early Friday morning. It took the House leadership hours of arm-twisting, deal-making and yelling (the microphones are turned off so you can’t hear on C-SPAN what is said on the floor during votes) to secure that razor thin margin. In fact, it came down to the last minute…and then some. The vote was scheduled to last five minutes, but was extended by almost one hour. Once that 216th vote was secured, the gavel fell ending the vote and ushering in Hillary Care.
However, a courageous group of 19 Republicans stood firm and voted against Hillary Care. Eight of those 19 votes were Liberty Caucus members.
Democrats voted against the bill because they wanted more money and simply to oppose the Republicans. But even though House Democrats voted against it, don’t think they aren’t smiling along with Hillary Clinton. The Democrats, yet again, suckered the Republicans into giving them what they wanted anyway.
The 19 Republicans who voted against Hillary Care should be congratulated. The 207 Republicans who voted for it should be criticized.
Learn how your U.S. representative voted. If he voted against Hillary Care, thank him for standing for principle and not caving in to political pressure. If he voted for Hillary Care, tell him you’re disappointed and will remember his vote.
