If the recall election makes the ballot, Gray Davis expects to survive the same way he did in November's election: by making voters dislike his opponents even more than they dislike him.

Darrell Issa, who hopes to be the main opponent, could be the perfect target.

I hate to say it but I think If it looks like the the recall is going to take place, Davis will resign. That means Bustomante, the LG, would take his place. He is certainly as bad if not worse than Davis. As I understand it, once the recall signatures are certified a Davis resignation would be mute and the recall would take palce with the winner being the new Governor. But I believe Davis could resign prior to the certification. I could be wrong. The law appears murky in this area.

If Davis resigns, we have accomplished a major goal. (The next goal is a thorough cleansing of the demRats from their state legislature in 2004 and statewide in 2006.

Let Cruz have his turn at the wheel but he better keep it North of the border! ;-)

I am sure there will be more legal challenges before the Recall date is finally set, hopefully No later than December.

Too bad the demRats only know how to spend and not how to cut.

Norm-I agree we want Davis out but we sure do not want Bustomonte in. We want a Republican sitting in the Governors office. I fail to see any advantage to our side if we get another Democrat in Sacramento. A weaken Davis in 04 would be better than another Dem. in the governors chair. I guess we can worry about this when the recall qualifies for the ballot. The Dems are going to play a lot of games before that happens.

I seriously doubt that he would. He has nothing to lose by taking it all the way. The only scenario I see in which Davis might resign is if he were promised some plum assignment with a fat salary. He could then resign just so that other Democrats could run on the recall ballot without seeming disloyal or opportunistic.
