That is what the Clam was referring to as part of the unsubstantiated baggage Issa carries.
The state of Israel recognizes Congressman Issa as a friend, and calls on him regularly to assist them in negotiations, for instance, of freeing captured Israeli prisoners.
That he has met with Palis is only a reflection of his steadfast desire for true Middle East peace. (I've heard him speak about this)
He is not dissimilar from the President in recognizing that REALISTICALLY for that to happen, both sides will have to make concessions.
He may get tagged as pro-muslim because of his Lebonese heritage (he's 4th Generation American, 1/2 Lebonese 1/2 Irish).
If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, be sure to ask him about it, his answer really opened my eyes.

"If Arnold runs...I probably won't be hopping on that bandwagon."
Does this mean you absolutely wouldn't vote for him?

Taking a quick look at how some more organizations have scored Issa's career:
National Right to Life Committee: 100%
National Rifle Association: "A"
Gun Owners of America: 100%
League of Private Property Voters: 100%
Americans for Tax Reform: 95%
American Conservative Union: 94%
Family Research Council: 90%
The more I look into this guy, the more I like him.

But my main goal is to see us support only one candidate. Be it McClintock, be it Issa, be it whomever.
One thing I am sure of though, and that is Bill Simon should not run because he cannot win.
I supported him in 2002, like we all did, and I just hope he decides to sit this one out and support our Party's candidate.
In fact, I am going to write him a letter saying as much. If anyone else would like to as well, I found his address online.
Bill Simon
William E. Simon & Sons

If he hears from enough of his former supporters, maybe we can convince him to turn his sights elsewhere, maybe to AG in 2006?

They should just drop the whole thing. They elected Grey Davis. Let them suffer.
To: ambrose
Why can't he run for the State Senate or House of Reps first? Because that would not fit with his *SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT*.
The *FACT* of the matter is that he thought he was being *HUMBLE* by running for *GOVERNOR* instead of *PRESIDENT*.
To: Sir Valentino
Who the heck ever said anything about President?
Bill is a great man. That is not what we're disputing. He did what no other conservative did, and that was take on White House-backed Dick Riordan because of a conviction of conservative beliefs.
I assure you, having spent the last two-plus years of my life spilling blood, sweat, and tears for the man, Bill is not the egotist you make him to be.
Now is just not his time...

"We have to get behind Dick Riordan, he is the only GOP person who can win this race."
Well, I'm in NJ, but I'll give you my 2 cents worth, no charge! I think you are right, here is how I see this race.
1. It will be a very, very short campaign. Name recognition will be of the utmost importance. California is a big state and whoever will prevail must be already known to those in the state who don't pay attention to politics.
2. I'm not at all sure a small turnout can be counted on. This will be a historical first, it will get a lot of media attention and people like to be "a part of things" that are important.
3. One candidate is ESSENTIAL. There are probably going to be a ton of loonies/gadflys/larksters from all political stripes on the ballot, they will siphon off a certain number of votes from Davis too, but there needs to be only one, valid, plausible, Republican alternative.
4. I think Riordan is a good choice, altho' I know that many conservatives don't like him, but it is certainly arguable that it was Davis's attacks that defeated him in the last go 'round.
5. If the goal is really, truly to "get rid of Davis" that must be the goal. It can't be "elect a conservative", "elect a tax-cutter", etc. Republicans alone cannot elect the govenor, you must field ONE candidate who has appeal across the middle and into the other aisle.
Brett Schundler, an unknown, got elected in the special election held in Jersey City after Gerald McCann was sent to prison. There were over 10 people on the ballot, including about 3 blacks, 2 people named Manzo (related? maybe, I forget), 2 hispanics, 2 women, etc., etc. Schundler prevailed by being a Republican, the only one who did not have a twin on the ballot he had to "share" his votes with.
If Riordan wants another bite at the apple, I'd give it to him.

Are some of you actually arguing over RINO Riordan and RINO AHHHHHNOLD as to who would make the better GOP??????? candidate??????? Let's see:
VOTE FOR RINO RIORDAN: He wants to commit the GOP to child slaughter, help pave the way for Lance and Bruce to marry and Bertha and Gertie too! Dykes on Bikes will probably be a featured act at his inaugural. RINO Riordan advocates door-to-door warrantless searches for GUNS (lions and tigers and bears, oh my!). Squandering fortunes on "the arts" is a sacrament in his social circle and he wants to spend oceans of Other People's (read taxpayers") Money on his pet schemes. He will hire other RINOs and contract with them empowering them to have more permanent control of California GOP megadelegations to GOP National Conventions, but somehow he is a "good manager". VOTE FOR RINO RIORDAN: HE'S THE GUY WHO WILL SPEND .04% LESS OF YOUR MONEY! AND, HE IS PRO-BUSINESS (he probably favors maximum wage laws for the peons). Wow, that's a war people will want to drive to if RINO Riordan doesn't confiscate their SUV's first . .in worship of Gaia. Ya gotta hand it to the guy. He is a real inspiration. What more could conservatives want?
Why they could want RINO AHHHHNOLD! He is more than RINO Riordan because he has bigger muscles particularly between his ears. He is about ten years younger than RINO Riordan despite AHHHHHNOLD's multiple bypass surgery AND for Muffy, Skipper, Mumsy and the crew down at the yacht club, AHHHHHNOLD is married to a real live niece of St. John of Hyannisport, the patron saint of nude swim parties with cocaine at the White House pool. AHHHHHNOLD has earned his way into that family. His wife's Uncle Ted will be snickering in his Scotch that the family has acquired the California GOP. AHHHHHNOLD is so far out that Barbara Boxer will probably vote for him. She and AHHHHNOLD have no known political differences and will you look at hose biceps!
BABS BOXER: Oh AHHHHNOLD, I was so thrilled by your support of a tax-raising referendum which passed. Even Gray DAvis has had some reluctance to raise taxes, AHHHHHNOLD, but not you. And your support of abortion is understandable given your, ummmm, social life but we never expected a guy like AHHHHHHNOLD to support gay adoption but you do, AHHHHNOLD, you really do. And gun control too. Oh, AHHHHNOLD, if you become governor, I might be willing to become a Republican if you hold me tight and uhhhhh, and uhhhhhh well, you know. Do I have to draw you a picture?......
Gollee, California RINOs are so brilliant! Is it true that some of you guys are frying eggs on your foreheads to save on energy and frying other folks' eggs to earn a little cash under the table? Are we supposed to be impressed by your capitalization of RATS as in DemoRATS when you want to elect Riordan a Demonrat in RINO drag?
If RINOs MUST control the California GOP, then you have not yet learned the necessary lessons via six years of Grey Davis and the scintillating visionaries even after still more wasted years of being governed by a RINO stooge like Planned Barrenhood Pete Wilson who looks like a Bircher by comparison with this years' crop of RINOs, then I hope Gray Davis resigns just before the election and you get the opportunity to be governed by Cruz Bustamente. If California is going to be lost to Western Civilization and disappear into the ocean, let it be on the Demonrats' watch and not under RINOs who exist only to undermine the actual Republican Party with the old Rockefeller/Lindsay gloom and doom and surrendermonkeyism.
A Republican Party can do a lot for a state. California ought to try having one again. It has been too many years of amateur hour as RINOs get imposed from above. You might have won with Simon despite an apparently pathetic campaign. He came within 5% or so. McClintock came closer in his race.
RINOs walked. It may be time to return the favor, doubled and redoubled.

He was on the KSFO morning show the other day and came accross as very articulate and a very personable and able guy. You would not have thought that from the campaign he ran against Davis. I think he is testing the water for another run if the recall is successful. I do not think he can win but who knows?

Yeppers!
To: ambrose
Actually, it's one of the "protect" targetted races by the state GOP for 2004. The Dems are planning to pump a ton of money into it.
It's a seat that leans Republican, but it is by no means an assured seat like a lot of Democrats have.

He's more than testing the waters. His campaign handlers during the last disaster farce election are quietly beginning to put together the volunteer infrastructure again.
Hence this letter.
