Poor dems . . . I'm sure they're upset, wishing Strom had died just before election 2004 so they could bring up all this unsavoriness. As it is, the negative things they're evoking about Strom (and in association with the republican party of course) will have been long, long forgotten come then.

My family got those machine cards for years at Christmas. My dad as far as I know never donated to Strom, but always spoke highly of him. This is when I was a kid in the 60s.When I got older and started to get into politics I sent a donation to him and got a real signature on a card from him. He was a very good man,and will be missed by many in this state.

Noted also that the flag at our post office , county seat and work was not at half staff for old Strom. Whats up with that ???.........he served long enough to warrant at least that IMO.........

I wonder how these same a$$wipes will eulogize Robert Byrd (a known Klan member) when he kicks the bucket.
The left knows no shame.

I love it how liberals are so outraged that he once held segregationist views. He was born in 1902 for cripes sake. Blacks were slaves some 35 years before.

Here in MN> they talk as if Wellstone was GOD!! They are trying too build shrines here. And I have too sit here and watch as my money is collected, schools are named. I do not wish death on almost anyone. But come on he was a left-wing wacco. There is no balance at all. Come on Lefties!!!

The Wall St. Journal article pointed out that Thurmond's obit was probably first written and filed away in the 80s at the Washington Post.
I imagine they've been sharpening their knives for Thurmond for years, and this is just a small sampling of what we'll get when Reagan passes away.

I would think that Bush or the GSA or someone would have done an executive order...
Here in SC, I noticed no flags at half-staff, and the ones I heard about that were quickly went to half-staff by midday when they realized their faux pas.

I lowered mine here in Texas without permission....doom on me , honors to ole Strom .

They're still slaves
LeBron James signs with NIKE for $90 million
And with Cleveland for $?????
And he can't speak a word of intelligble English
How did he get through Grade School, never mind high school or University?
Maybe Thurmond was right 50 years ago
To: Squantos
So did I here... as soon as the sun came up Friday.
Those EOs just apply to gov't facilities anyway...
Back when Floyd Spence died, the office of fellow congressman Jim Clyburn in Columbia, SC was a bit slow getting theirs to half mast... but they didn't make that mistake this time.
To: AJ Insider
When "Sheets" Byrd meets his maker, I bet there won't be any mention of his KKK membership anywhere in any article, or obit...not like Strom, where something about his history on racial issues was in the first sentance, or first paragraph.

Clymer even cited someone else' racism as an indictment of Thurmond. From
Best of the Web:
What Liberal Media? Is it possible that Adam Clymer's New York Times obituary for Thurmond is just a wee bit biased? The headline reads: "Strom Thurmond, Foe of Integration, Dies at 100." This seems somewhat unfair; he was a foe of integration, but hadn't been one for decades. Then there's this lovely passage: After President Truman announced a broad civil rights program and issued an executive order to integrate the armed services in 1948, Mr. Thurmond was not among the president's most strident early critics. He said nothing comparable to the analogy by Senator Richard B. Russell of Georgia that using the Federal Bureau of Investigation on civil rights cases was comparable to Hitler's use of the Gestapo.
Why are we reading in Thurmond's obit about something he didn't say--other than because Clymer wants to remind us that he was on the same side as the guy who did say it?
To: AJ Insider
"I imagine they've been sharpening their knives for Thurmond for years, and this is just a small sampling of what we'll get when Reagan passes away."No doubt.
But I'll bet Robert Byrd will get a glowing revue from "The Washinton Post" as a towering bastion of freedom and hope for minoritys.
Go figure.
To: Keith in Iowa
"When "Sheets" Byrd meets his maker, I bet there won't be any mention of his KKK membership."You can bet on that.
To: blackbart.223
No mention of his "White N-word" comment will be made either... heck, Thurmond's NYT obit mentioned the Russell thing while all of his obits were sure to include comments made by Trent Lott. If liberals were held to that standard, the headline would be "Robert Byrd, Klansman, dead"
To: AJ Insider
Oh, wait until Ronald Reagan dies. You will see some real ugliness then.
To: blackbart.223
I wonder how these same a$$wipes will eulogize Robert Byrd (a known Klan member) when he kicks the bucket. Perhaps they could "illuminate" his cross.
