She used the Individualized Education Plan as a means to pick and choose which classes she wanted. IEPs are meant for kids who really NEED to be on an IEP (kids who have Down's Syndrome, are deaf, blind etc). Sounds like what she really wanted was to be homeschooled, but to be able to be in school at the same time. I agree with the Moorestown people. This person really found a way around the rules.

Ted Olsen is a lawywer. Barbara Olsen was a lawyer. Ann Coulter is a lawyer. There is a law practice in California making sure that our recall petitions get counted when they are supposed to.

But wouldn't they have needed some sort of proof of a disability for the school to allow it? Why did the school allow it if she wasn't really disabled? I can't imagine they would just go by her dad's word that she was disabled, they would certainly need proof from a doctor if it wasn't an obvious disability. It's very obvious that the people in town don't like her or her family so they didn't want her as valedictorian. If their system screwed up in her case, it should show them what they need to fix in the future. They should've seen this coming before her senior year and worked on it before then, rather than after the fact and trying to make rules retroactive to just to effect her. None of us have any idea what is wrong with her, if anything. She may really have something like chronic fatigue syndrome. My hubby had that in his 20's and lost a job over it so I know it can be dibilitating for some people. Without all the facts, I have trouble saying there is nothing wrong with her and she abused the system. I'm sure it will come out eventually what is or is not wrong with her. Her dad sounds a little over the edge but I'm not sure I can blame a dad for wanting to get the best of everything for his daughter, especially if she really is ill. I'd rather see parents trying to get their kids a good education than parents letting their kids vandalize people's homes during the night. It could be a case of the parents hating the father and encouraging their kids to demonize his kid. If it's a small town, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. The 2 million dollar lawsuit is likely her dad's doing rather than her own. But I'm not going to call her a brat just because her dad isn't quite right. I think i'll just wait until it comes out what is actually wrong with her before I make my judgement on her. I'm just torn in two directions on this one because I remember how horrible high school kids can be to each other and teachers can be to kids they dislike without any good reason behind it. Not that my opinion matters in the case. But I'm sure I'll have one anyway.
