I assume this means he refused to dismantle a Jewish settlement. I have some sympathy for him, although I agree that refusing to follow orders is a serious business.

An officer that does not obey lawful orders should not be an officer after something like this. The IDF is a military organization, not a philosophy club.

I thought that all IDF personnel were allowed to request a change of venue if they felt they could not in good conscience carry out this command. So why did this officer fail to make sure that he would not be in a position to receive such an order?

The fact that there is an Israel at all speaks volumes to that.

But I am not sure how "biblical claims to the Jewish homeland" relate to insubordination by an IDF officer. Perhaps you can elaborate for me?
