Berlin (dpa) - A headline-grabbing probe into a drugs-and-prostitutes scandal in Berlin has unearthed evidence that an incriminating phone call came from the German parliament, an official said Friday.

The investigation, which has swept up a celebrity TV talk show host in its wake, took on new proportions with the announcement by Berlin law-enforcement head Karin Schubert that one call to underworld pimps originated at the Bundestag parliament.

``There was a call and it was made in January of this year,'' Schubert told ARD television news. ``The identity of the caller is as yet unknown.''

Schubert said Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse has been officially notified of the incident.

The same investigation has already embroiled one notable German in controversy, if peripherally. Michel Friedman, a television personality and one of the most prominent Jewish leaders in Germany, is the subject of a criminal investigation for possession of illicit drugs.

Friedman, vice president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and the host of a top-rated TV talk show, could face charges of possession of cocaine. <P. Friedman's telephone number reportedly surfaced in the investigations into underworld dealings with prostitutes and drugs. While no charges have been filed in his case, Friedman's weekly TV talk show has been suspended indefinitely.

Maybe it was an innocent call for advice, from one prostitute to another?

a drugs-and-prostitutes scandal in Berlin

The only real scandal is that anyone thinks drugs or prostitution are any of government's business.
