Please tell me that redistricting will give us the chance to get this effing b*tch out of office!

Unfortunately no. She's in one of those "protected" majority-minority seats that ALWAYS elects a Democrat and, to date, has ALWAYS elected a Democrat from the socialist lunatic fringe of that party. It's first rep. was suspected lesbian and left wing extremist Barbara Jordan (better not say anything bad about her though because she is popular to worship these days as a "civil rights hero"). After her it was won by a communist druggie of the Ron Dellums mold named Mickey Leeland (but you can't say anything bad about him either because he was "martyred" in a plane crash in Africa). Next came Craig Washington, a lazy left wing nut who went to Washington to occupy an office then decided that actually showing up on the floor wasn't part of his job description. Then Queen Sheila came along and ousted him in the 'rat primary thanks to heavy financial support from Ken Lay of Enron infamy.

The problem with the set aside districts like this,IMO is that if she keeps the seat long enough that at some point when the democrats get back in control then she will be a committee chair along with others because of senority.... scary to think about.

But you do have to admit that she is kinda cute. Kinda. In a diferent sort of way. Maybe?

Anyway, I hope the three new minority Congressmen that will replace the white Democrat Crongressmen under the GOP plan are just as attractive.

Funny... thanks for backgrounder. I remember the Leland crash and the big deal made about this dashiki dude.

From the internet--->

In 1978 Leland constructed the National Black-Hispanic Democratic Coalition that drew attention at the Democratic midterm convention in Memphis. Leland took the congressional seat vacated by Barbara Jordanqv of Houston later that same year. Leland served actively for over ten years in the United States House of Representatives. Many members considered his style flamboyant with his dashiki, Afro haircut, and eccentric hats. Eventually Leland abandoned these more unconventional characteristics and made attempts to establish bipartisan relationships.

"Barbara Jordan"

I'm as conservative a Republican as you can get, but Barbara Jordan was much respected by me and a lot of others like me. She may have been a democrat, she may or may not have been a lesbian (THAT'S one I've never heard before about her!), and some might herald her as a civil rights hero...but she WAS always a class act. She was a brilliant orator, and even though she was confined to a wheelchair with her last illness of several years, her wonder voice and spirit fought on. She lived with her mother, and compared to the current crop of black congressional women (Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters), she was Mt. Everest to a couple of large hills along the highway.

Her voice and oratory (?) skills were such that one TV commentator said that if God were a woman, she would sound like Barbara Jordan.
