I live in AZ and I have a card. They don't ask for it at the polling place, though. Just ask name and address and have me sign.

That is right, you can mail in a voter registration form, the county registrar mails you a voter registration. The county registrar is prevented by law from asking for ID, or checking for citizenship of anyone registering to vote.
