However, since the educated, Westernized element bailed out of Iran in big numbers with the fall of the Shah, I believe the supposed Persian civilization has taken a really huge hit.

Between the Iranians who fled, and the millions that Saddam killed, their people HAVE taken a huge hit. But these are Persians, they won't stand for having Arab thugs imported to slaughter them. I'm praying the military will step in here, I have no reason to believe they will other than a hope that they recall their duty to protect the people.

I think your take is dead wrong. What we are seeing in Iran is nothing less than the beginning of the Islamic Reformation.

The vast majority of Iranians under 30 HATE Islam now, in their hearts they are blaming Islam for the misery infilcted on their society for 24 years.

They don't want a "division of mosque and state", they want the mullahs CRUSHED.
