Oh puh-leez. Look, I know we're in a war and if there's any weapon out there to hammer the Dems we ought to try to grab it and use it, and I know it probably feels good to point this out, and it makes a good soundbyte, but comparing Old South Democrats like Lester Maddox to today's modern Democrats is about like comparing apples to kumquats. Old South Democrats like Lester Maddox, George Wallace, etc., were Democrats simply because the Republicans imposed Reconstruction on the South, and in those days you were less than 100 years removed from Reconstruction and those memories died hard. Old South Democrats were New Dealers as far as federal government activism, although they bailed out when things got out of hand with the Great Society, but on social issues aside from race they were pretty much in line with the GOP today. I don't think I need to point out, however, how wrong they were on the race issue.

If you'd grown up in the South during the late 1950s and 1960s ... as I did ... you'd understand this.

But the thing is, of the folks from that era who are still involved in politics ... not so much on the national level like the Senate, where you have Byrd, Hollings, etc., but on the local and state level ... an awful lot of them switched to the GOP (like George Wallace Jr., FYI). And need I point out that Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms were once Democrats and switched to the GOP?

Bottom line, by all means let's use ever weapon at our disposal to hammer the Dems ... but let's make sure they're relevant and put them in context and consider all the factors.

The Dems use ignorance of the past and imply that the opposition to civil rights in the 60s was by the GOP. The try to saddle us with the Dixiecrats when all of them started out as DEMOCRATS and when the Dixiecrats fell on their ass, they ALL went back to being DEMOCRATS. STrom didn't become a Republican for at least a decade after his Dixiecrat phase.

As for Helms, I don't know his history as well.

And the Democrats still use that lie to buy votes with hate. They'll stand in the pulpit of a house of God in a black community and blame "the right wing" for burning black churches. Well under the Clinton administration, a multi-agency task force headed by BATF called the "National Church Arson Task Force" looked into "burning black churches". Hell those agencies were run by CLINTON'S APPOINTEES and still they couldn't find this epidemic of "burning black churches". The Democrats lied to create hate between the races so as to gather votes for themselves. How noble.

The reports of the "National Church Arson Task Force" are available on the web. Any reporter who has the good work habits and an investigative spirit would have a great news story comparing Clinton and Gore's statements against the task forces finding. Do I think that will happen? No, not unless Matt Drudge does it. That's why he's a millionaire, and few reporters are, he works harder and has higher standards.

All that is fine but seems to ignore the fact that the RAT party has been the Party of the Wrong Idea from its inception in 1792.

Racist democrats until the 70s had NO simularities to the GOP other than being anti-commie. NONE of the RAT ideals are the ideals of America and when they appeared to be it was just demagogic appeals to the masses.

The Republican Party has been the party of Freedom, Liberty and Capitalism from its inception and has always been opposed by the RATs for those reasons. It was the Party of Slavery, Liberty for Slavers and the spiritual heirs of Slavers and Class Warfare.

It is wonderful how you believe the media is allowed to and should control history, what words are used and how one must interpret them and in such a case it is appropriate to withhold information or obfuscate.

Your posts was a pefect example of media bias and it isn't necessarily liberal it is arrogance together with a sub-par intelligence and education. Always a bad combination.
