What's even funnier is the fact the 99% of these posters have never stepped foot in Lynchburg, VA, talked to an LU student/grad, read about the school, or investigated anything regarding the school, and yet they are experts. The problem is they buy into the Jerry Falwell the press presents, and then anything associated with him is "wacked out" "out of the mainstream" "extremist".

I would agree that some of those rules are legalistic and dare say ridiculous in my opinion. Its not what I would necessarily do if I was setting up a college, but guess what, I didnt set up LU, and neither did anyone on this board. As many have said, its known upfront what the rules are, no one is required to attend. Some people want to go to a college where they are not bombarded with temptations/peer pressure day in and day out. Some people actually believe that sleeping around, getting drunk every weekend, cheating on test, and doing drugs is not what they want to do or is a part of their belief system (gasp). What wackos! </sarcasm> Unfortunately for the anti-Christian bigots on this site, LU will have about 10,000 kids this year, not to mention the hundreds of other Christian Colleges with thousands of students.

I did not go to LU (I went to a less legalistic college), but I have had family go to LU and have visited MANY times. What I can tell you is that Falwell's personality is so far removed from what the press tells you that its not even funny. He's a prankster, jokester, and very approachable. The kids at the school LOVE him. I will never forget seeing him "crowd surf" at a basketball game one time (even at his weight!). Whatever you think about the man, you have to admit that he has convictions and sticks by them. He calls a spade a spade...

One question: If all these rules make the kids "uncreative", how about your co-workers? What is the dress code at your work??? Is it so horrible that your boss makes you were clean, nice clothes? I see no difference in your argument. Are parochial school kids who wear uniforms less creative?

I'll second that. Can you use alcohol at work? Most places that would get you fired. Can you bring pornography to work? Not only would you get fired, if they didn't fire you they could be successfully sued in civil court for creating a sexually oppressive environment. Can you date employees under your supervision? Not.

We had a Baptist college not too far from where I lived. I used to visit when my cousins were there. It was really a nice environment. I went to state school and watched some of my friends turn to alcohol and drugs. If I could have afforded it, I would have loved a campus like Liberty.

My family loves brother Jerry. I grew up in Lynchburg, Va. 1410 Kemper street across from Blue Buckle garment factory. I remember when I was 10 years old and Thomas Roads Baptist church had it's beginnings. Ah, those were the days. I am so glad Liberty sprang from it. They offer some very good courses we have taken as a family here at home.
