Whatever CA does WA is sure to follow since WA legislators and RAT governor use CA as a model. Sheesh!

California is one (if not the most) expensive states to license a car, pickup, motor home, etc. aka: car tax. It's a percentage of the vehicles current value. This could be anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand. To triple this percentage (I don't remember what it is now, it used to be 6%, I think) is totally outrageous.
It also makes me glad I moved from "Beautiful Downtown Burbank" in 1971. Most of the Northwest states have set prices or low percentages.

I used to go swimming and surfing out of Point Dume. Sailing out of the Marina Del Rey. Beautiful California went to the dogs.

Great article, it pleases me to see someone remind people of the $12 surplus, as well as saying that nothing was inevitable, the state is what you make of it.
But with state lawmakers locked in a partisan struggle that looks no further than tax increases and cuts to vital services, a responsible budget seems like an impossible dream.
I have a problem with this, I'm sure the editors don't realize this, but they are allowing the debate to be framed along Democratic lines. Its not cuts to vital services, that is what Democrates do...turn around and define cutting Fire, Police, Roads and schools and "cuts" and the dismiss anyone who dare brings up the "c" word again.
I'm not a big water carrier for the GOP, certainly not the CA GOP, but lets give credit where credit is earned, the 16 Republicans (or however many it is) deserve a ton of credit for not going along with the tax increase.
It is because of their principles and wisdom that the choice of changing parties "in midstream" is clear to all non partisan Californians.

The bottom cartoon with the boat is great. It really puts things in prospective.

Use our Spending Revolt as a model for WA yourself.

Right. That's why Washington state has a "shall-issue" law concerning concealed weapons permits, no state income tax, $35 a year car tags and a non-deregulated power grid.
You might want to consider counting your blessings. Washington state has its problems, but compared to California this place is paradise, and Gary Locke compared to Greyout Davis is like comparing Cato the Elder to Bomba the Monkey Boy. Furthermore, it looks like Washington state is paying attention to the mistakes made by California in the hopes of avoiding them and their pitfalls. Again, count your blessings.

Love the cartoons. I have the feeling the collection will be quite large before the recall tosses this bum out.

My god a fair editorial from a CA. newspaper. I guess pigs do fly.

Someone is going to make a killing with a laserjet printer and a simple graphics program and cheap sticky paper. Are you saying that "someone" is the State of California? Or, that the "someone" is a counterfeiter, and CA state gov't is so inept that its vehicle records system couldn't produce a list of non-payers? Or, are you saying Californians would be so easily duped by the counterfeiter as to believe the system couldn't do that? Maybe I missed your point.

I'm saying that someone is going to make a boatload of cash counterfieting tags.
the State of California's incompetence and ineptness speaks for itself and the evidence is all over the place.
Do you think 2-3 million illegal aliens are going to pay 130 bucks to register thier car? When Jose down the street can hook em up for 10 bucks? Get real.
I feel sorry for conservative californians. I even feel sorry for the stupid liberal ones, for they know not what they do.
To: Stopislamnow
Get real.At $130 a pop, that vehicle records system will soon be able to spit out that list of non-payers, even if it can't today.
When nothing else works, the government's ability to collect money owed it is that last thing to be neglected for very long, especially in times like these.
