Dick Morris Restates "Big Theory"

June 24, 2003

by Rush Limbaugh

On May 28th of this year, I issued "The BIG Theory" on my program. I said that President Bush's strategy is to steal away Democrat issues by voting for big government programs. I then asked, "What happens when you get in office, and your goal is getting re-elected? Is there ever a point where you say, 'We have all the support we need. Now we can start rolling back government and expanding freedom'?" I'm deeply troubled by this tactic, because it involves rejecting our conservative principles in order to win elections.

Dick Morris calls Bush's strategery "triangulation," comparing it to Bill Clinton positioning himself between liberals and conservatives on issues such as welfare reform. Morris writes that "President Bush has stolen all the Democratic issues," and lists everything from Medicare drug benefits to Head Start to welfare called "tax credits" for people who don't pay taxes. Morris says that advancing big government in the name of "compassion" has helped to assure Bush's reelection. With the war issue faded, Bush has "gotten his political act together with a speed and sureness that shows what a magnificently gifted politician he truly is." So much for Democrats rerunning 1992.

There's just one thing that Morris did not get. Bush isn't just trying to win a second term. He's trying to attract new Republican voters. By acting like liberal Democrats who want to force taxpayers to fund new entitlements, Bush is in essence saying, "I'm your guy." If he's successful in getting even a small percentage of the minority vote that reliably goes Democrat, in addition to keeping conservatives happy on things like tax cuts, this could end up being a major realignment. A lot of people who've apparently been in the meetings with Bush send me e-mails saying, "No, no, no, Rush! Bush is going to get these huge majorities in the House and Senate, then use them to advance conservatism!" Well, I haven't been in those meetings - but even if that does happen, at that point you can wave good-bye to all those new voters.

The big surprise is when a person when talking or mentioning me in their reply has the courage to say it to my face(i.e ping me in their reply line).

Oh please.

I'm going to do it (not ping you) because it annoys you. :^D

Until proven otherwise we owe Bush NOTHING

JMO, but you never gave Bush your vote.

Again JMO, but it is interesting that your sign up date is 12/02/00, right in the middle of Gore trying to steal the elction fiasco, and for the last year you have been a big Bush basher.

I am not surprised. Your goal in life seems to be annoying people.

A good goal for someone who wants to be a star on MTV, but, IMO, not a good goal in real life.

Anyone got an irony meter? Mine broke on one of the "we'll grow our way to smaller government" posts.

Yes, you have a point in this. However, if we get a large enough majority in 2004, the trigger could be set in motion sooner, and be far enough along that even if we don't hold the White House in 2008, we would still be well on the privatization path.

Well, who knows? I am listening to Charles Rangel think that this is the end of Medicare, Fred Barnes thinks Kennedy is right, Juan is as usual confused, and there's just too much confusion goin' on here!

When

Bush had Teddy do the ed bill and then signed CFR after he said it was unconstitutional and then Bush slammed our christian leaders with his Islam is Peace BS that was the start. Not to mention letting Clintons off the hook and then Afirmative action that he two faced gave a speech on TV and then sent a different brief to the SC.

And then back stabbed Lott with the rats.....

Yeah you are right I did change when the man I was proud to call President back stabbed conservatives. But GOOD!

Reagan never had a GOP House.

No, he didn't, but he did have a GOP Senate for 6 years of his term.

Ooops. This sentence from #356 should read...

"No one’s arguing that Bush try to privatize Medicare and Social Security tomorrow, but it’s important to get on with the business of making the argument against the actuarial train wreck looming in the late 2020s."

The irony meter just went besonkers, IMO, with your aboveitalicized passage.

This judgement from a person giving up his vain picture signature would make Linus from the Peanuts cartoons giving up his security blanket like the french surrendering to the nazi's.

True, but the lack of control of the House is the obvious answer to why Reagan Presided over the budgetary increases that he did. I've seen the question raised often, and I don't understand how the answer is missed.

Hey whatever floats your boat dude, but IMO, sailing your ship to the MTV mentality, does no good in the long run.

Forgive my slow-wittedness, but would you care to rephrase this, or throw in some punctuation?

Indeed..

There's no way Dubya intends to shrink government..

He's not the White Night Conservatives have hoped for in this regard. He's just another big government, tax and spend republican looking out for his own butt and trying to buy votes with tax dollars.

But, hey.. he's not algor.

Huh, interesting that you didn't cut and paste reply #370 for added empahsis.

Oh that's right you have to direct the converstaion away from your crutch of your "picture signature".

Saber, could you give up your picture signature for say 24 hours, or would you get the vapors if you didn't have your picture signature?

JMO, but it looks like you have been neglecting your political homework for years.

Oh that's right MTV is your goal, never mind.
