I agree, Ender's Game is a classic. Card also writes Fantasy. The Alvin Maker series is a must read. Start with the first book, Seventh Son.

I had no idea that he wrote op-ed columns. I know that he is a Mormon from Utah. They tend to be morally conservative people.
