The people of Iraq have maintained a Syriac culture for 4000 years. I don't think we can change it and that is the problem. Westerners like the Greeks, Romans and Brits tried to change their ways but they all failed. The Mongols attempted genocide by obliterating Baghdad but the culture survived amongst the peasantry.
