Somebody please explain to me the difference between then there and here now!

Private and religious colleges do not have to accept federal money and all the strings attached to it.

That option was not available during the communist era to anyone.

There are still a few private and religious schools that have not sold their sold to the federal government for filthy lucre

Actually it was. Bribery and connections could work miracles. And that's in effect the same as few (emphasis on "few") private colleges and universities here. How many are there anyway? I know only of Hillsdale College, and recall some mentions in Hillsdale's publication IMPRIMIS of one other such college. I think the requirements of exclusion are strict: not one student may be accepting a penny of any kind of federal assistance.
