My point was that there are blacks in this country that did not descend from Africans OR slaves in this country. Since being "African" American seems to be the deciding factor here, how are they going to weed out those non-African blacks? Oh, they aren't? So it really IS about the color of their skin and not about historical discrimination at all.

If the compelling governmental interest is racial diversity, I shouldn't think it matters what kind of black one is, where one hails from, one kind is as good as another in creating racial diversity.

Do you think these Carribbean blacks sprang out of the Earth? They are all of African origin. Nearly all blacks in the Western Hemisphere are descendants of slaves. The Carribbean had a larger slave population than it ever had of whites.

I've seen african-american on some apps and black on others... alway optional. Considering that my mother is a african-spanish-french-dutch... to infinity creole mix from the West Indies, they won't ever have enough space for me to list everything. It is about the color of skin. If they were interested in righting past wrongs, they'd limit the AA programs to qualified descents of black American slaves. Today it's all about scholarship money as well. Public schools also have private scholarships available for many different ethnic groups.
