If Senator Hollings (D-Disney) does run, he will be in for the fight of his life but will probably win--SC has a long record of protecting incumbents (hell, we re-elected Strom when he was 94 and clearly starting to fade). If, on the other hand, Foghorn decides to retire gracefully, the Republicans are probably going to get the seat.

Bush/Rove must be coveting this seat for '04, incumbency be damned. If W's coattails aren't good for a seat or two, I'll be dumbfounded.

Carroll Campbell was beating him in polls in 1998 before deciding to not run. Hollings is hardly Strom Thurmond.
