it was the republican party about 1947 that first proposed one world government.
during the cold war the american military faced the soviet union and communist china. an associated element of the strategy was american corporate internationalism. american corporations built up japan, s korea, malasia, indonesia, taiwan, hong kong, w germany, etc. the deficit in imports with these countries was an expected cost of building a wall against communism. japan and germany with their educational systems and highly motivated workers did very well, especially japan during the vietnam war. japan also profited quite handsomely from the deregulation of the american t/c industries, investing only $90 billion in bell labs patents and getting 500 billion in return for consumer electronics, thru' the 1980's, even more afterwards.
richard nixon "opened" china as a bulwark against the soviet union. then deng in the mid-1980's made a major decision to accept western capitalism modified by chicom ideology. actually, the few families of the ruling elites are going to get very wealthy during the industrialization of china.
in the late 1970's the concept of telecommuting emerged. i remember in the early 1980's being awed by bell labs' ability to repair the paris france telephone system from denver. now, if you can do your job from home, so can an indian or irishwoman half the way around the world. the only resolution to the middle east problems will be american corporate intervention of providing manufacturing jobs to arabs and persians, in addition to the israelis, where intel already has a research center.
we all compete now globally whether we want to or not. jet travel and the internet have only speeded it up.
reading history, those who have sought to prevent inventions or labor from moving across borders have not fared well.
do corporations have an ethical responsiblity to nationalism? in some countries they are required to, but probably not in the united states due to our mixed culture and our internationalist hegemony. in other words, to control international development, the united states deliberately spreads itself around the globe. a huge cost. the alternative is not to control or influence international development. in that case, communism would have won, and now the terrorists of the world would control various areas like gangs control inner city streets and 'hoods.
capitalism has been called "creative destruction".
if you want to know what the u.s. government and u.s. corporations are thinking, then attend the world affairs conferences, or attend the local meetings of the world affairs groups in your communities.

it was the republican party about 1947 that first proposed one world government. The first sentence and the only one with which I disagree. That is the left wing view of things--those who equate corporations with fascism. In 1940s, Harry Dexter White, Launchin Curry, Alger Hiss and other Soviet agents in the FDR and Truman administrations were the people proposing one world government.
