Man Arrested for Wearing 'Peace on Earth' T-Shirt in Mall Donates Shirt to New York Museum

ALBANY, N.Y. June 21 — A man arrested earlier this year after he refused to take off a "Peace on Earth" T-shirt in a mall donated the shirt to a state museum.

The shirt is part of the permanent collection of the State Museum in Albany, which includes wardrobes dating to the 1760s, Revolutionary War rifles and a "Howdy Doody" marionette.

"Our mission is to document New York history, natural and human, and this certainly is a piece of that," said museum Director Clifford Siegfried.

In March, Stephen Downs and his son said security officers at a suburban Albany mall asked them to remove their anti-war T-shirts or leave the mall. They refused.

The guards returned with a police officer who repeated the ultimatum. The son took his T-shirt off, but Downs refused and was arrested. The trespassing charge was dropped after the case made international headlines.

Hmmm.... Old T-shirts make excellent dust rags. Or they're excellent for waxing that dingy car.

I'm not familiar with the problem with wearing said shirt. Could someone explain it to me? I mean, I realize that it is a rather idealistic dream, but I assume that there is some left-wing anti-American issues behind it in order to get people riled up.

Reuters has a story on it as well, and it appears appears as though he bought the store in the very same mall. If this is the case, which I do not believe I have reason to question, it would seem more like the security guards acted a bit out of order.

True he bought it in a mall store and had it printed by the mall store. The guard was fired later and Steven here being a lawyer offered the guard his service.

FYI

Steven is a anti-war liberal rat from the likes of the du.

Whoa, all this guy does is wear a shirt that says "Peace on Earth" and he gets ARRESTED? And there are people here at our (ostensibly) Free Republic who think this is okay because "he's a liberal?" It doesn't matter if he's a f**king MARTIAN, you shouldn't be arrested because someone doesn't like your shirt.

I've got a shirt that says, "Peace had its chance, now let's try war," on it. Should I be arrested because some security guard doesn't like it? You can be sure DU would howl to the moon about how wonderful my arrest was because "he's a conservative." The difference is, they are statist scum. Statist scum were once relatively rare around here.

I don't agree with the arrest, but I don't actually know all the details either. But I think it is damn ridiculous that the stinky sweaty tshirt is going to be put in a museum. Short of donations these days it looks like, but then what do expect from ny.
