Infineon Raceway is one of the premier road racing venues in the country, and one of the few on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series circuit. The facility first opened in 1968 and serves as the gateway to the beautiful and scenic Sonoma Valley, which serves as one of the top wine-producing regions in the world.

I think you are right about that.

Flash starting to charge; he's up to 5th.
Serious pit stops coming, with Crash now pitting.

Like me saying that Kenseth's going to continue his good road-course run :-)
Kenseth lost a tire going toward turn 11, manages to get into the pits anyway (YES!!!!)

Full-course caution for the remains of Kenseth's tire.

1968? That sounds about 10 years too soon. I'm going to have to put my memory cap on.
Why do I think so? I didn't start working on the final geometry of the track until about 8 years later than that I think. 1978 for the opening perhaps?
The track was created by a half dozen local investors and "laid out" by a golf architect.
Making it work as a real racetrack was a tough but fun challenge for me at the time.
I'll just have to look in my old worksheet boxes.
Needless to say I have always had a soft spot for that place.
Up until 4 years ago I lived in the closest town to the track, Novato, which is just over the county line in Marin County.

OK....that's a lousy excuse for a yellow. The pit flag man could just about hook that tire carcas with his flag and pull it safe.
To: steveegg
Why couldn't that have happened coming out of turn 11?!?!?!?!
To: Publius6961
We now know where to send Spencer when he complains about taking another 40th :-)
Seriously, that's a fine track.

Jr's well ahead of Kenseth now (11th vs 27th).
