"The Fox programmers are not trying to drive the culture but react to it."

Oh really, do you know the kind of people who produce these shows? These are the white collar scum of society. They have always wanted to re-shape society according to their miserable lifestyles and then make money too in the process. Of course, people will watch the shows because as human beings we're curious.

Show business people will always push the envelope whether people wanted this or not. There would be controversy for a while until eventually this becomes the norm. Then, they push the line some more.

These people live and die by ratings. Sponsors want ratings and demographics. The idea is to make money. If they don't get the numbers, they are out of work.

Yes, I do know them. Do you? Their jobs depend on ratings, not on social manipulation. Rupert Murdoch is interested in making a profit. Is there anything wrong with that? Don't we believe in Capitalism and allowing markets to operate? That is what's going on here.

If a show gets good numbers on Showtime or HBO it will influence commercial television. It has to. It is a natural process of the free market.

That's because it gets the highest ratings and makes them more money. If family safe shows made more money, that's what they would show. They don't, so that's not what they put on the air. When the the family shows start getting the ratings that the more risque shows do, you'll start seeing them in primetime TV. It's all about the ratings and money.

I AGREE!!!! It seems that about 99.9999999998% of the people involved in commercial television, whether it be the producers or board-sitting-program-choosing-network executives, are all a bunch of morally-bankrupt sleazoids whose god is money, and nothing else.

Like you mentioned, they're all the typical greasy, greedy slimeball motherf***ers of the Hollywood-type, and are probably anti-war as well, (but that's another topic) who want to degrade things as far as possible, and to wring the most $$$ from it all in the name of capitalist free enterprise (not to knock capitalism or free enterprise in general, it's the commercial television industry that has abused free enterprise by mocking and ignoring morality in general for the Almighty Dollar, IMHO.)

Thank God for PBS, PAX, and the Discovery/Learning/History Channels, with their socially & intellectually redeeming programming, and TechTV, although they are starting to slowly go down the commercial tv sewer with their shows like "Unscrewed" and "Wired for Sex"... They sure didn't have programming like that a year ago or so...
