Senator McClintock's Statement on the Tripling of the Car Tax
Senator Tom McClintock today issued the following statement:
At 10:01 this morning, I was informed by State Finance Director Steve Peace that the administration has ordered a tripling of the California Vehicle License Fee, commonly referred to as the car tax.
This is an illegal act by the Governor and the Controller, and I am confident that it will be successfully overturned by the courts. Unfortunately, as the administration is well aware, the state constitution forbids an action to enjoin the collection of a tax, which means that it could take many years before the courts can stop this illegal act.
Therefore, at 11:00 this morning, I filed the paperwork with the Attorney General for two initiatives, one constitutional and the other statutory, to abolish Californias car tax completely.
The statutory measure will permanently set the car tax at one dollar. It will require 373,200 signatures.
The constitutional amendment abolishes the tax outright, forbids the imposition of additional fees and guarantees full reimbursement to local governments. It will require 597,923 signatures.
This action starts a 25-day clock for ballot title and summary. During this period, our committee will determine which measure to move forward with. More than 10,000 citizens have already signed up at my website at www.tommcclintock.com to carry car tax petitions and have pledged to collect 600,000 signatures. We expect to qualify for the November 2004 ballot.
Once this tax has been abolished, it will still take nearly three years before taxpayers are even made whole for what will have been illegally taken from them.

There used to be a sign here in Las Vegas that showed the amount of gambling money coming in. As you watched, the numbers - 8 digits - just kept rolling up.
Dim Watt Davis just put his "Recall Me Now!" sign in warp drive.

He is the man. I favor tripling the car tax back to what it was (cars impose a lot of unpaid for externalities), but that is a public policy matter.

Be very afraid of your postman!
They are rat fink stoolies for out of state cars that are seen at a residence over an extended period of time!
My sister in law had the CHP and a DMV rep show up at her door because she was storing her sons Corvette with Virginia plates on it in the garage. The postman ratted on her!

I'm glad McClintock has been making the radio rounds today and this issue is getting lots of coverage. I heard him on KNX 1070 (LA) and KOGO 600 (SD). KNX also has been playing sound clips of him and Assemblyman Tony Strickland, although they have also been replaying sound clips of the democrat propaganda.

The CHP and the DMV? Your sister-in-law is pulling your johnson. LOL I think that tinfoil cap you are wearing is a little too tight. LOL Storing a vehicle with out-of-state plates is no problem and definitely not illegal. Even if you are pulled over driving a vehicle with out-of-state plates and you have proof of residence in NV or wherever you have the vehicle registered your behind is in the clear. That's why you should carry a NV driver's license too.

BTW "afraid of my postman?" That is very rich! I don't know what part of CA you live but the postmen we have hardly speak english. And who the heck gets their mail delivered. Ya gotta have a post office box these days. The last American postman we had stole everyone's credit cards. He's doing a long stretch upstate. No, I have no fear! That's why I carry a Sig, keep a Rottie and my attorney's phone number in my wallet. Backup...
