It's one of those unfortunate deals you make with the devil who will talk.The Venona files could not be revealed I believe because we didn't want the Soviets to know we'd cracked a code.

No argument there; it happens all the time in the intelligence community. My response to the poster was triggered by statements made which were transparently false. I don't know if the poster is deliberately spreading disinformation, or simply ignorant of history.

Either way, I don't care. I've been correcting historical inaccuracies on this board for many years; it's a function I enjoy and a task which is critically necessary. It's what seperates us from liberal BS artists....

What had the Feds in a panic is that Venona had shown there were 349 Soviet agents in America. Of that, only 150 or so could be identified. With the Soviets pushing everywhere and America troops dying in Korea, it was imperative we find out who those other 200 agents were. That is why they squeezed the Rosenbergs. We never did find out who most of the traitors were.
