Man Accused Of Drugging Wife To Stop Her Nagging Complaint: Woman Found Vicodin In Her Ice Cream

POSTED: 11:25 a.m. EDT June 19, 2003

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- A Stevens Point man is accused of drugging his wife with a prescription painkiller, telling investigators she was nagging him for failing to do some chores.

A criminal complaint filed in Portage County says Gary Guinn put Vicodin in some ice cream he bought for his wife.

When she bit into something bitter, she spit it out and reported it to the ice cream stand and police. A sample was sent to the state crime lab in Madison, which determined the presence of Vicodin.

When detectives questioned Guinn, he allegedly told them his wife had been nagging him after she returned from a trip because he failed to do some work he had promised to do.

The complaint says Guinn had the Vicodin because of recent surgery.

A court date is scheduled July 14.

Married once for a very long time. I like giving flowers for presents, and that was the last bouquet I picked out. What is a foot rub? Lol!

That ring is beautiful, I wonder how much it weighs...in ounces not karats heehee!

Dang. I wanted to see if it would work.

He obviously didn't mix it into the ice cream well enough. It works... umm... errr... I would think it should work. ;-) (all joking of course!)

(There are no correct answers to these questions, but if you give the wrong answer, you're dead meat.)

How about those 'funny' greeting cards? For my 30th birthday, I got a card that said, "You're so old, you fart dust". That's ok, when he gets cards from the kids, they're pretty darn insulting.

I didn't have to ask him if my butt looked fat, he would volunteer the info, not to mention that I looked like hell after sitting up with sick kids all night. Yes we are divorced :-)

Oh yes we are divorced. Look into herbal tinctures that induce sleep; you can slip some into his drink if it gets really bad ;-) (wish I would have thought of that about 15 years ago)

No. She's the one running for her life. She did the right thing. This time Vicodin, next time cyanide?! Talk about a passive-agressive, hen-pecked SOB. A husband that immature and violent deserves some jail time and a hefty divorce pay out to teach him a lesson.

Hey, lighten up a bit! First, he didn't use poison. Second, if he was violent he'd have slugged her. And if he's hen-pecked, isn't the hen at least somewhat to blame? He just wanted her to mellow out a bit, that's all.

That being said, he was both immature and wrong. He should have tried to mellow her out with a glass of wine at some nice restaurant instead of this. But jail? Nope. If I were the judge, I'd sentence BOTH of them to 6 months of weekly marriage counseling, and I'd make him account for every pill he took on a weekly basis. And maybe a divorce would be best.

Why do men die before women? Because they WANT to. That's a joke, get it?

I thought FReepers were above the "blame the victim" game, but I guess not.

For someone who doens't have a medical license, this "husband" has a lot of nerve trying to "prescribe" ANY prescription meds to his wife (or anyone else)without her consent or knowledge. For all he knew, she could have had a violent allergic to it or something. That stuff is pretty potent stuff. If she had ended up in hospital seriously sick, don't think an attempted murder charge would be far behind.

My husband took one after some dental surgery once and he was OUT COLD. After that he refused to ever take it again. He would rather suffer w/ some pain than be in a brainless fog.

Vicodin is not something to play games with. I agree with you on one point though. If he really wanted to mellow her out, he should have taken her to nice restaurant, ordered her a glass of wine (or something with chocolate in it) and left it at that.

I think jail time would do him some good because it looks like HE's the one who needs to mellow out, not her.

What he should have done was whatever it was he promised her he'd do to begin with. He could have saved himself a lot of trouble.

I agree to some degree, since they don't give much detail about exactly what they are doing, it's hard to replicate their good ideas as well. But at least you figure out what DOESN'T work so you don't repeat it at your dinner table.

Naw, it's the cultural divide. There's no way to dress up swallow's nest (made of swallow mucous) to make it appetizing to me. And some of their desserts...I'd cite some examples, but I blocked them out.

You got a lady and you want her gone, but you ain't got the guts

She keeps nagging at you night and day,it's enough to drive you nuts

Get on the phone, leave her alone

It's time you make a stand

Believe me,I'm happy to be

Your backdoor man

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap

Of course he's wrong. He's a man isn't he? More important - he's safe!

It truly is a beautiful ring and in all honesty, I had it made for my husband. He is one of the toughest men I've ever met, yet he claims the ring hurts his finger. Awwww! So I am forced to wear it.

As far as nagging goes, I would never nag the man who wakes me with coffee each morning, tells me I'm beautiful (I ain't even pretty first thing it the morning), looks after everything in our household, and believes jewelry is the perfect gift for every occasion. Nope, I just worship the ground he walks on.

I thought FReepers were above the "blame the victim" game, but I guess not.

As with all arguments (especially between spouses), there are 2 sides...and then there's the truth. In almost ALL cases, both sides are somewhat wrong. If this guy was henpecked, isn't the hen a bit to blame? NO, it is no excuse for what he did - that was wrong. I come from a family with lots of medical education and experience, and I'd be among the last to play with medications. But this wasn't a bolt from the blue - her nagging had to have taken place over a period of years or decades. Bothering someone you are supposed to love and care for a great deal, to the point that he is so bothered by your nagging that he feels he has no other option - that deserves some blame also. And on his side, he DIDN'T go further - he didn't poison her, hit her, etc. Against him is that he might be a lazy bum that never does anything around the house-or maybe a few things, but never enough to satisfy her. You see, it is complicated and there is almost certainly blame enough to go around.

I was NOT blaming the victim, which is something that I'm very much against. I just believe in analyzing ALL sides of a disagreement/conflict, as in almost such instances there are aggrieved parties on all sides. To paraphrase my wife, I am sure that this lady was no white dove, either.

I'll stick with no jail time - a judge should force them to go through marriage counseling.

I like ice cream, and I like Vicodin, but I'm not sure I'd like 'em together

Just crush them and use them like sprinkles.

It might not be so bad if it's one of those busy ice cream flavors, like pink bubblegum, but I'm not sure vanilla would take it very well.
