...Now the CNN of the Arab world has fired its general manager, Mohammed Jassem Ali-Ali. Ali-Ali had set up and run the network since its inception in 1996. He had previously worked for Qatar television; Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar, but repeatedly aired exclusive footage provided by Iraqi officials during the war. The firing came after the London Sunday Times reported that Iraqi intelligence agents had successfully penetrated the network and converted it into an "instrument" of the Iraqi regime. Al-Jazeera spokesmen denied any connection between the reports and Ali-Alis removal...

It will be revealing if any mainstream media picks up this story. As it is very few of Al-Jazeera's more obvious whoppers get mentioned.
Al-Jazeera gets a pass just like Louis Farrakhan does. When spokeman for the Nation of Islam say stupid things, they are rarely disseminated to the general public.
I believe the spokesman when they say that Jassem didn't get fired because he was a stooge for Islamic America haters - that's a good thing in their eyes.

I remember in early May when I heard a long, rambling commentary on NPR about war coverage. One of the few points made by the speaker was his opinion that U. S. coverage shold be more like the coverage on Al-Jazerra. (I guess in his twisted view, the U. S. coverage wasn't adequaetly reflecting the pro-Saddam viewpoint. Personally I thought the pro-Saddam viewpoint got plenty of exposure on U. S. networks.)
Now that we know Al-Jazerra was penetrated by Iraqi intelligence, it really illustrates even more clearly the pro-Saddam and even pro-Stalinistic leanings of U. S. war critics who loved the Al-Jazerra coverage.
