I remember going to a real freak show when I was very young - maybe 5 or 6. It was a sideshow to a traveling circus/carnival. I particularly remember "Flipper Boy" - a poor soul whose arms only developed about 1 foot long.

As the Residents bring up in their album, while by today's standards it's considered exploitive (*) , it was a way for them to make an independent living. And what's worse is I wonder how many are aborted.

(*)as if "reality TV" and daytime talk shows aren't exploitive
