That's what I said above about 'spinning quite a tale.' Plus, Stalin had the help of communist sympathizers within Manhattan to give him the a big head start. There were no 'Nazi sympathizers' among the largely Jewish Manhattan Project braintrust.

Hitler could have melted the east coast in the late 50s or early 60s; we probably could have retaliated to some extent, depending on whether we had a rocket program of our own, starting up independently sans-Wehrner ("vans ze rockets go up who cares ver zey come down?
